Books

I don't think it would be worth mentioning books without writing something about them, don't you?
http://pinterest.com/offonpluto/books-worth-reading/

I have to mention first the Monster series.  Monster Island, Monster Nation and Monster Planet.  I like these better than I like World War Z!  Really!  When I heard they were making a World War Z movie I was happy, but I had been saying that the series deserved to be made into a movie.  It will probably never happen, but if it were I'd be first in line.  I really loved it.  It's not your typical zombies.  They talk, they eat everything with a life force (even the bark off the trees) and the mummies (FINALLY) that died after they stoped taking the brain out of the skull before wrapping them even came alive.  I really don't want to give away how this all started, but that's your typical problem as well.  We all know it's coming.  This book shows it did.  The middle book wasn't as interesting as the beginning and the last, but it ties everything together so you have to read them all.  If you want to read something out of the ordinary zombie stereotype and you have an open imagination you need to read them.

Speaking of imagination...  you need a huge one for Breathers.  Yes, another zombie book.  I didn't like this one though.  While it also strays away from the typical zombie stereotype they added things I just didn't like.  They go to meetings to control not eating human flesh.  They are people that died and just won't accept it.  They want normal lives.  They even want a law passed that gives them rights.  Worst part of it all (and this I WILL give away) is that when they do eat flesh they start becoming more and more human.  More and more alive I guess I should say.  Their hearts start beating again.  One chick gets PREGNANT before "breathers" set her on fire and leave her to die again.  I have an open imagination, but this was too much.  It just wasn't my style.

World War Z.  Great book.  Different perspectives from all over the world during and after the zombie outbreak.  How it started.  Everything.  I can't wait for the movie.  I hope it sticks to the book.  If they stray too much it won't be worth watching.  They even have dogs that sniff out if you are infected.  How they train a dog to do that in such a short time, I don't know.  I haven't read it in years, so maybe they said it was a while into the outbreak.  I don't remember.  I just know it actually was one of the best.

Zombie Survival Guide.  Another great book, but honestly I have to say some of it is just common sense and others are a YEAH RIGHT.  I didn't enjoy it as much as everyone else.  I don't know why.  It was good, but not the best.  I think I had too much of an expectation on it.  It's obviously about how to survive a zombie outbreak.  Tips and tricks.  A must have for any zombie book collector anyway.

Zombie Haiku.  It was much shorter than I thought it would be for the price.  If they lowered it to the price of a kids book it wouldn't be so bad.  It was a great short story though.  Throug the eyes of a zombie.  What they think when they go out looking for brains or something they are familiar with.  I liked it.
WILL FIND A LINK FOR THIS LATER, PROMISE
The Rising.  Hated it.  I never even bothered to read the rest in the series.  Every dead thing becomes a zombie.  When I read about a zombie fish I was done.  This was after a man is happy that his wife is pregnant but then the zombie outbreak starts and she dies and the baby corpse inside her is a zombie coming out.  That was ridiculous.  The whole time he is trying to reach his son.  I could care less if he ever does reach him in the 2nd book.  I'm done with it.  I think it was poorly written and doesn't keep my interest at all.

Patient Zero.  I read about halfway and stopped.  This was another one that just could not keep my attention.  I don't know why.  Usually when I start a book, no matter how horrible or uninteresting it is I read the whole thing.  Not this one though.  I can't say much about it.  You'll have to judge for yourself.

When I was younger I read R. L. Stein.  I don't think there was one I didn't like.  I started reading them in 6th grade.  Not Goosebumps for younger kids, but the Fear Street ones.  This was someone I joined a book club for in order to get every new release sent right to my house.  I even wrote him a letter and he put my name into one of his books!  My name was missing the "e" at the end, but it was awesome to see that!  Everyone always spells my name wrong anyway.  My mother in law has known me my entire life and still spells my name wrong.  They are horror books without the terrible language or gore which is great for kids.

MY PINTEREST IS A MESS

I have a few boards on Pinterest, and people are following them, so I don't want to upset those who chose to follow a board for a couple of pins by taking a pin out and changing it to another board.  I have already added a few more after people followed them and now they have to go through tons of pictures in each folder to find why they followed my board in the first place.  I want it more organized though.  I figured my blog would be the best place to find that because I can always add more links to my catagories.  Food, Holiday, Birthday, etc.  Not just that, but different food items too.  Desserts, Chicken, etc.  I want to be able to find exactly what I am looking for without going through a ton of photos on one "food" board.  So, keep watching.  It will take a long time since I can't do this at work and I have kids at home, but I will eventually get it done.  I just have to stop pinning for a while.  (HA)

For those of you without a pinterest, I will be adding the actual web page, so don't worry.

baby clothes blanket

I wanted to take a moment and just share some ideas for baby clothes.  You know, the ones that baby made a "mess" in and the onesies are all stained brown at the bottoms...  or the ones that have soo much yuck around the collar that you can't even donate them?  Or how about the ones that you just can't seem to let go of and want to keep?  What I have done is take those clothes and cut squares.  They do not all have to be the same size.  As long as when it all comes together it's all straight on the top and bottom, left and right you are okay.  If it's a picture, cut out the picture.  If its just fabric, that's fine too.  Just make sure you cut the square piece from seam to seam and you don't have the sewed part in your square.  Put them all together.  Make a blanket.  When you are down sewing them all together, go to a crafty type store (or Walmart, doesn't matter) and pick out a fabric to be the back.  Make sure you measure so you know how much you will need.  Place both fabrics nice side down.  Sew three sides.  You can either leave it like this pull it through so it's right side out and sew up the end, or you can pull it through and fill it with polyfil (flat).  If you decide on the polyfil, remember with each wash it will get bunched up bits at a time so hanging it out to dry would be best, after hand washing it.  If you do the polyfil sew little spots through the seams of the pics through the polyfil itself to the back.  Buttons in these spots work nice to cover up any weird looking spots.  This will hold the filling in place.  Sew up the end and keep your babies clothes that you just couldn't part with!  For an example, you can go to the link below and see one finished.  It has two of my old shirts in it and I cut up an old pink baby blanket of mine.  I drew pics on some squares for the rest of them.  I picked a polyester back.  My son loved it.

home updates

I'm sick of waiting for my bathroom and my kitchen to get finished.  It's been almost 2 months now and nothing has been touched.  Except...  what I did in the kitchen.  I painted the cabinets while waiting for them to finish.  They need to install the towel racks, the mirrors, the toilet paper holder, etc in the bathroom and the dishwasher in the kitchen.  The reason the cabinet door isn't on the bottom is because our water shut off valve is in there.  You actually have to crawl into it in order to get to it.  I know, this house SUCKS.  I hate it here.  Always have.  But, then again, I don't think I will be happy with ANY house as long as it's in PA.

I still have to clean up, but as of right now I have no where to put anything while I wait on them.  I also have a microwave shelf that needs to get installed, but that's been sitting around for a month.  The dishwasher has been sitting in it's box for 6 months.  IT BETTER WORK!

This was the kitchen when we bought the house (and yeah, LOVE the washer in the TINY kitchen.  NOT)

Close up of the original color

Pot holder in front of the mirrors

This is before I got to the end door.  The hinge is actually UNDER the window frame.  Genius.  Really.  I couldn't take it off.  I had to paint it while it was up there.  That was really hard on the arms and it got all over the place.

Minus the door that I need to put on at the bottom there next to the stove, this is the update.  I added the pot holder to the ceiling.  I added a mirror frame which when you turn the light on it reflects all over the place and brightens up the kitchen.  The bottom is an antique grey and the top is igloo white.  On the opposite side of the kitchen I added a table that folds against the wall when not in use (you saw the tiny kitchen pic) and more cabinets.  Too bad this is all going to be torn out when we re-do the pipes IF WE EVER HAVE MONEY.  It looks really nice.  Would look nicer with SOME ROOM with the microwave being moved to the other wall on its shelf and my dishwasher being installed next to the sink, but give it about a year and that just might happen.

Original bathroom- updated floor.  With a towel around the toilet.  This is what started the whole "knock it all down" process.  Thanks leaky toilet.

Now a few NO bathroom pics...

AND.....  bathroom as of right now until it's finished.
Surround and a new small window above the shower so the neighbor stops looking in when we are in the shower.  The shower head is AWESOME.  Love it.  Bri needed it up really high so he wasn't always knealing to take a shower so I got one that stayed up high and the hand middle that I could pull down if it was too far away.  It's great.  Doesn't leak or anything.

This is actually an inexpensive sink.  I got the white cabinet portion for $40.  (Which also came with the white top, but I switched that on the upstairs sink so that was "new" as well)  The granite sink top was expensive, but not half as much as they wanted for a "nice" cabinet combo.  The faucet was about 30 or 40$.

One cabinet and a couple shelves.  It's nice for medicines/soaps/etc and the shelves for towels.  And I can put pictures or vases on top of the cabinet.

The light at the top is a vent too.  It's really quiet too and doesn't wake anyone up.  No more sweating in the summer due to someone taking a shower in a room that already has a hot boiler!
Haven't hung our new white and black curtain yet.  I'm lazy and I lost it.  lol

Yeah, that is my mirror for now.

Don't mind the boiler (let me tell you how much I LOVE that loud ass thing too).  They still have to put the cover on that when they are done too.

My biggest part was the granite floor.  I wanted something that would boost the value of this POS house and look nice.  I wanted them TOGETHER, not apart like this.  It upset me soo much.  I spent soo much time figuring out the floor alone and it was going to be perfect.  Not like this it isn't.  Actually makes me not like the bathroom at all.  I walk in there and it hurts the hell out of my feet.  Bri tells me to put the rugs down.  What is the point of having a super nice expensive floor if we are just going to cover it up?  UGH

And just a tad on the upstairs bathroom for now.  Little bits at a time here.
Very small mirror and horrible cracked/corroded sink

Tiny toilet.  YUCK!

New mirror.

New toilet (I know it doesn't seem like much, but when you get a small one that takes 5 flushes to make TP go down this one is well worth it to hear that it will suck down a basket of golf balls all at once!)

And I don't have a pic of the sink with the white top right now.  We actually got rid of this skinny small one totally and we moved the one that was downstairs up here and changed the blue top to the white.  Looks like we actually spent money on it.  Actually, you can see the cabinet on the other side of the toilet waiting to be installed.  :-)

I'll have to get pics soon and post that too.  And maybe some pics of the paint I did in the rooms so far?
